Angles of installation of wheels

Optimum qualities of the movement and the smallest wear of tires are reached only at the correct installation of forward wheels. At abnormal wear of tires, at a bad continence of the road - at bad keeping of the direction, and also at bad controllability on turns - it is necessary to address in a workshop for check of the car optical means.

Measurement of angles of installation of wheels is impossible without special measuring devices. Therefore we will be limited here only to the description of the basic concepts, necessary for measurement.

Convergence/disorder / cross inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel / longitudinal inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel (выбег)

The convergence is understood as side distance between wheels. Forward wheels, as a rule have to have a positive convergence as wheels at the expense of disorder and resistance to swing run up a little outside as in bearings of naves, a suspension bracket of wheels and tips of steering drafts there is a side play. The positive convergence means compensates the aspiration of forward wheels to run up outside. At a positive convergence of a wheel are established so that, measuring at height of an average point of a wheel in front are located more closely to each other than behind.

Disorder and cross inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel reduce transfer of blows from the road by steering and support the smallest friction at the movement on turns.

Disorder is a corner on which the surface of a wheel deviates vertical management. Forward wheels stand thus under an inclination, at negative disorder, for example, wheels in points of fastening are spaced far apart from each other than above. The cross inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel is a corner beta between the axis of an inclination of a rotary fist and a vertical which is carried out through a point of fastening of a wheel, looking in the longitudinal direction.

At the expense of corners of disorder and a cross inclination of an axis of turn of a point of a contact of wheels with the road settle down closer to an axis of a rotary fist. It supports by the smallest a so-called shoulder of a running in. The running in shoulder is less, the management is easier. Also blows from the road exert weaker impact on steering. The longitudinal inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel (выбег) is a corner between an axis of a rotary fist and a vertical in a point of fastening of a wheel, looking in the cross direction of the car. Выбег exerts considerable impact on the movement of wheels on a straight line. Too small выбег causes a deviation from the set direction at movement along bad streets or at a side wind and does not allow to return to steering after passing of turn to a starting position. On the other side of a big vybeg increases force of management.

Выбег, disorder and a cross inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel can only be checked for MAZDA 323, they are not subject to adjustment. If the measured sizes lie out of area of admissible limits, details of a suspension bracket are damaged or worn-out.

Adjustment

The viewing hole or the elevator with a platform is necessary for check of angles of installation of wheels. At each measurement the following conditions have to be satisfied.

  • The ordered pressure in tires
  • The car is not loaded, and completely filled.
  • It is previously strong to rock the car
  • Steering wheel on average situation.
  • Absence in drafts of steering of an inadmissible side play (the maximum side play of a steering wheel on an outer edge of 30 mm)
  • Lack of an inadmissible side play in a suspension bracket of wheels
  • The vertical and side beating of disks of wheels should not exceed 2, 0 mm.
  • The difference on height between the left and right parties of the car measured on the edge of a wing should not be more than 10 mm.
